He sought to answer the question, “How can we be in the world but not of it?” How ought Christians to think about movies, music, and art? It is easy to say if something is Christian then that means it is safe. But many times Christian TV, radio, and movies can still be carnal. The Bible is not “safe” as some people see safeness. There are all sorts of sins being committed including rape, murder, and betrayal. When examining these types of media it is not so much if there is a good message but what does it do with darkness? Does it subtly lure you into a state in which you want darkness to prevail, or does it show darkness for what it truly is?

Weekly Wrap-Up 3.11.12 http://www.kingdomfirsthbc.org/2012/03/15/weekly-wrap-up-3-11-12/ http://www.kingdomfirsthbc.org/2012/03/15/weekly-wrap-up-3-11-12/#comments Thu, 15 Mar 2012 12:01:17 +0000 admin http://www.kingdomfirsthbc.org/?p=2598 This Sunday Ken Lovett continued our study through Colossians by examining chapter 3:5-11.  In this lesson, Ken describes how we are to live as new creations in Christ.  First we must realize as Paul stresses in the text, that sin matters. It is signifigant that we live lives in Christ continually putting sin to death.  Second, Ken points out that Paul emphasizes that words matter.  Our words, the way in which we speak to one another gives evidence of the heart we have.  A new heart in Christ will evidence speech, devoid of slander, malice, and anger.  Finally, Paul admonishes the reader to put on the new man, through Christ.  We were created in the image of Christ, and are being conformed to His image.  When we realize that we must turn from sin, because sin matters; and we realize that we should control our speech because our words matter; then we will demonstrate that we have put on the new life offered to us through Christ’s sacrifice.

Weekly Wrap-Up 3.4.12 http://www.kingdomfirsthbc.org/2012/03/07/weekly-wrap-up-3-4-12/ http://www.kingdomfirsthbc.org/2012/03/07/weekly-wrap-up-3-4-12/#comments Wed, 07 Mar 2012 13:00:54 +0000 admin http://www.kingdomfirsthbc.org/?p=2594 This week in Kingdom First, Phillip Bethancourt continued our study through the book of Colossians. Teaching through 2:13-3:4 he explained that Paul is speaking of the fact that we are all born dead spiritually and it is only by the piercing of the heart that we are made alive. The shadows in the Old Testament traditions and rituals are but a shadow but Christ is the substance that fills us. You have died with him then you should not live as if the elemental spirits rule. This is the type of temptation that the church at Colossae was facing. Paul was asking them in essence, “Why are you still living as those who do not know Christ?” Those who are legalistic are more concerned with the “what” of Christianity than they are the who. We are hidden in Christ and the war on sin is one that continually looks forward to his appearance.

Weekly Wrap-Up 2.19.12 http://www.kingdomfirsthbc.org/2012/02/22/weekly-wrap-up-2-19-12/ http://www.kingdomfirsthbc.org/2012/02/22/weekly-wrap-up-2-19-12/#comments Wed, 22 Feb 2012 13:00:29 +0000 admin http://www.kingdomfirsthbc.org/?p=2589 This week in Kingdom First, Dr. Moore continued our study in the book of Colossians and taught through 2:1-8. He showed us that it is easy to read Colossians and see it as a deep theological book and therefore see it as distant, but it is a very personal book. Paul is showing the Colossians what it is like to be like Christ. Sometimes this even means to have the right kind of worry. Just like children are dependent upon their parents, so the churches were dependent upon Paul and because of this it caused him much concern when they drifted away from the gospel. He wants to show them that the real mystery is not about Christ, but that it is Christ. It is not as if you get wisdom and knowledge and then get Christ. You get Christ and then wisdom and he leads you to wisdom and knowledge. If you have received Christ then walk in him.
